Prospective applicants who submitted their entry under the diversity visa of 2020 (DV-2020) can read further for the green card lottery dates and also check the status of their application online starting on Tuesday, May 7, 2019, at noon (EDT). The green card lottery dates for the diversity Visa of 2020 period opened on the 3rd of October 2018 and closed on the 6th of November 2018. The only information valid for checking your status is the information contained in the confirmation notification.

All applicants should know the green card lottery dates so that they can act fast, visa availability is on a first come first serve basis. Applicants must check online for their status. Diversity visa entry status check is available only through the Department of State service. Until September 30, 2020, entrants are able to check the status of their entry through the E-DV website. Entrants need to use their own confirmation page information from time to check the status of their visa application, whether they were successful or not.

Even if you are not selected on 7th May 2019, applicants should keep their confirmation number until at least September 30, 2020, because the Department of State may select more DV-2020 entries on October 1st, 2019 or even after. Entrants who have lost their confirmation number can enter further identifying details on the official website to retrieve it by clicking the “Forgot Confirmation Number” link.

Applicants who are lucky to be selected have to confirm their qualifications, submit their immigrant visa and alien registration application, they are to prepare supporting documents and have a consular interview. The provisions of the immigration and nationality act determine the number of diversity immigrant visas that will be made available each year, that is what will determine the visa number allocations. Selected entrants are to attend a scheduled interview whenever there are available visa numbers.

There is no given date for this year’s application, it is expected that the Green card lottery dates for this year’s application will be between October and November this year. Official green card lottery dates, rules and regulations, as well as eligible countries, should be announced by late September.

DV-2019 Program

Online registration for the DV-2019 Program was brought to a conclusion on November 22, 2017. Electronic Diversity Visa Entry Forms were submitted online. It is of utmost priority that you retain your confirmation page and confirmation number just as earlier advised.

You may check the status of your entry online by clicking on Entrant Status Check and entering your unique confirmation number and personal information. Entrant Status Check is the only means of informing you of your success in the computer selection for DV-2019, and providing instructions on how to proceed with your application, and notifying you of your appointment for an immigrant visa interview.

The Embassy started processing DV-2019 visa lottery cases and issuing immigrant visas on a first come first serve basis to eligible applicants on Monday, October 1, 2018.

 

Please note that winning DV Lottery is not a guarantee for getting an immigrant visa or a green card. DV applicants have certain criteria and requirements to satisfy for them to get the U.S. immigrant.

To enter the DV lottery, you must be a native of one of the countries listed by the State Department.
